Episode 12 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
Episode 12 of MasterChef South Africa aired last week and of course I have to share my views. Having been part of the fourth season of MasterChef, I can’t help but compare while watching the show. Read my episode summary below. The competitors are lined up with blindfolds on and Katlego stands in front of them with a small plate with a cube of an unidentified ingredient. One by one, the contestants smell and taste their mystery ingredient, and guess what they have been given.
HOME.BAO’s Frozen Dumplings and Potstickers
I love cooking with Asian flavours, but making these little pockets of goodness from scratch myself is not something I’ve ventured into. And with HOME.BAO, I don’t have to! I met Tina when I visited the MasterChef set. We quickly got talking and realised we had a lot in common: we are both foodies -of course- but also entrepreneurs.
Episode 11 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
The contestants are tasked to making 1.5 kgs of wors, cooking it on the hibachi, and serving their with modern side dish of a heritage starch and a tasty sauce or gravy. Last but not least, they are required to make a true South African delicacy: skilpadjies. All of this, needed to be done within the 2.5 hour time frame.
Episode 10 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
This episode is all about a fusion of two of my favourite cuisines as contestants will be asked to combine the culinary traditions of Italy and South Africa. The MasterChef contestants welcomed none other than celebrity chef Alessandro Khojane, also known as “The Sotho Italian” and owner of Gemelli in Bryanston. In a surprise twist, two contestants leave the MasterChef kitchen in this episode.
Episode 9 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
With episode 9 we have reached the halfway mark of the competition. The top 10 walked in in white aprons for a non-elimination challenge, but one that came with quite a twist in the form of a cash reward of 50,000 rand to the best dish.
The Food&Home Awards - Introducing the Judges for 2024
It is that time of year again! Recently, this year’s Food&Home Awards judges were announced, and it is about time I introduce them to you. These judges have both the privilege and the responsibility to taste South Africa’s leading brands’ food and drink products and determine which are the best of the best.
Pippa Hudson interviews former MasterChef South Africa winner Shawn Godfrey
I think this was the first time I was referred to as “former MasterChef SA winner” and technically, it’s not true. The top ten MasterChef SA season 5 contestants are still battling it out and the season’s winner will only be crowned later this year. So until then, I’m going to claim my spot as current MasterChef winner, even though season 4 aired a few years ago.
Radio Interview with MasterChef South Africa winner Shawn Godfrey
Recently, Gugu Mhlungu interviewed me on “Weekend Breakfast with Gugu Mhlungu” on 702. If you missed it, you can listen to the recording below. I spoke about the recipes I share here on The Roasted Dad, what it was like to win MasterChef season 4, and what it was like to be back in the studio, but this time without needing to cook! I also shared how I’ve been involved in the current season 5 from the get-go, as my company LED Lighting SA was the lighting sponsor.
Episode 8 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
The eight episode of MasterChef South Africa saw me riding in on a Pick ‘n Pay asap scooter! I’m sure it looked like a smooth ride to you but let me tell you, it was not easy at all! These electric motorbikes really have some oomph and I struggled to stay upright on the slippery studio floors.
Episode 7 of MasterChef South Africa Season 5
The seventh episode of MasterChef South Africa saw Penny, Ketsia, Nash, Bridget, Lona, Refe and Nash battling it out against each other in a elimination challenge. They were given an hour to showcase their creativity by whipping up a gourmet meal from the judges’ typical month-end leftovers and were only allowed to use 20 classic frugal South African staples.
